Fear of Being Alone

“Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him” (Matthew 4:11).

Most people avoid it. Some find it uncomfortable. Others consider it a form of rejection. But for the Christian, there should be no fear of being alone, as these are the moments God speaks to us the most. Jesus made a habit of separating himself from the voices of others. He treasured the silence. As a matter of fact, he was immediately led to the desert following his baptism. He was alone for 40 days and nights, fasting and praying just as his ministry to others was in its infant stages. Satan tried every trick in the book to derail Jesus, preying on his weakened state, but to no avail. But then an interesting thing happens. Satan finally gives up. Matthew says it like this. (Matthew 4:11 NIV) “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.”

No doubt Jesus was stronger because of the time spent alone with God. He was able to fight off the devil before the angels came to assist him. He expected the fight, and was ready for it. This is what I crave in my own spiritual life. I want nothing more than to send Satan running and for angels to then attend to me and give me strength. In order for this to happen, I believe that sometimes, all the people in my life must be stripped away for a season. Relocation. The loss of a job. A new school. A family situation no one else can relate to. The words of a doctor that change your life with a simple test result. All of these leave us alone, with no one else to call on but God himself. He is okay with this, and we should be as well. If we learn to embrace the alone times, we might just find ourselves strong enough to fight the battle that looms on the horizon.

Dear God, we are not used to the silence. We don’t know quite how to handle it. We find it unsettling, as if we have been forgotten by the world. Teach us to find you in these places. Teach us to listen for your voice above all others. Send angels to attend to us, and give us the strength to make Satan flee from our lives, once and for all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Was Adam sinful before the fall? (Dr Ron Choong's answer)

Short answer: Yes and No. Adam was existentially (by existence) sinful from the moment he was made but became volitionally (by will) sinful only when he disobeyed God.

Long answer: The word sin describes both a state of being (existential sin) and a state of separation from God (volitional sin). Taking Adam to represent the first humans made in the image of God and hence, the first creatures capable of sin, the question is – was it a sinful Adam who disobeyed God or was it a sinless Adam who became sinful because he disobeyed God? The answer is – yes.

Yes, Adam was existentially sinful from the moment he was made (not perfect), and yes he ‘became’ volitionally sinful when he made the decision to disobey God. Thus the existentially sinful person became volitionally sinful. Hence, while Adam was good (but imperfect since only God is perfect), and he was existentially sinful as all ‘not-Gods’ are, he was not guilty. But when existentially sinful Adam became volitionally sinful Adam, he became spiritually guilty.

To summarize, the moment a baby is born, she is existentially sinful but not guilty, but when she intentionally rejects God, she becomes volitionally sinful and spiritually guilty. You can read about this in the Project Timothy guide So You Think You Know the Bible Vol. 1 (p8-9) or in my upcoming book Are We Sinners Because We Sin or Do We Sin because We Are Sinners?

Extra: Dr Ron shared with us that God did not create Adam as a perfect creature, because perfection cannot beget perfection. If not, God would have created another god (i.e. Adam).

The Bible referred Jesus as the 2nd adam (choronologically) and not referring to the nature of the 1st adam.

March 5th, 2011 “Don’t you know that YOU YOURSELVES are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16)?

Some of the first ways we identify who we are is by our name. As a child, one of the nicknames my parents gave me was Sunshine…that always made me feel special. Then as I grew I retained other identities. When I entered school, I was many times referred to as Bert and Mark’s little sister. When the teachers made that reference, it was never positive because it was always followed up with, “But you are much more talkative than they were.”

In high school, I played the piano for the singing groups and for most every one who sang solos, so people would identify me as the person who played the piano. Time went on; I became a wife, a mom. You get the picture, many times the way we view ourselves comes from external sources. Positive and negative. My son made the proud and excited proclamation that he loved math!!! This was immediately followed up by his sister calling him stupid. You could see on his face that he was processing that comment. If I like math, I’m stupid….hmmmm. It had an impact on his identity.

So, who am I? Who do I believe? Some ways that others identify who we are, are in fact true. I was quite talkative in school, I was the piano player, however, my son is in no way stupid, as his sister would quite strongly suggest. Who do you seek to confirm your identity? Do you look to what society tells you, what your friends tell you, what your parents tell you? Where do you look in order to confirm your identity? Even sometimes when we look within it’s not positive. It can be confusing, can’t it? For as many people that would say positive things about me, there are just as many that wouldn’t. Who is right, who is wrong? Is there some truth to all of it? None of it? Well, as usual for the absolute truth we must go to the scriptures. Here are some things to reflect on when you are having a “beat-yourself-up” day: 1

Cor. 3:16 says: “Don’t you know that YOU YOURSELVES are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?”

Please read that one a couple of times. If that verse does not have weighty implications, I don’t know what. It begins by saying Don’t you know!!! Wow, don’t you? Read and reflect on that, several times, each time I do it has a greater impact on me.

John 15:5 says: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Ok, so we are branch, a part of the vine. We are not alone, we are the branch connected to the vine.

Eph. 2:10 says: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We are God’s workmanship, do you think of yourself in that way when others tell you that you have failed? Created in Christ Jesus?

Gal. 4:6, 7 says: “Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, [Abba, Father].”

Not only are we sons of God, but we have God’s Son in us also! Once again, let me ask who am I, who are you? When the world tells, you any different, when you think any different remember this: YOU are God’s temple with His Spirit IN you, YOU are a branch connected to the ever living vine, YOU are God’s workmanship created IN Christ, and YOU are a SON (or DAUGHTER) of God with His Son living in your heart. God is not a liar; do not accuse Him of that by acting any other way.

Buffett urged investors not to focus on the net income figures that companies report because they are easily manipulated through accounting tricks or by selling investments. He said Berkshire's net income can be particularly misleading because of the large amount of unrealized investment gains or losses the company holds at any given time.

Hi guys, I just read one of the most amazing article on "CHANGE" today. And here are several points that I think is just so simple, but so mind - blowing at the same time:

1. A servant of King Solomon would repeatedly say to the King during good as well as bad times, “This, too, shall pass”. It was his way of keeping the King grounded, knowing that history always moved in spirals. Ignoring history condemns one to repeating it, albeit in a different time and space.

2. Poignant in any crisis is that, the thinking which landed us the problem cannot be the one that will get us out of it.

3. He places all attention in altering his view of the world based on his own personal reality, as his external reality is fixed. He transforms his thoughts and values. He transforms what was the worst day of his life into his best day. The only things that change in this transformation are his thoughts and actions.

4. Reform agendas of any kind must address the subliminal structural issues. Whether in public or private sectors, media, non-governmental organisations and even the public, we all touch lives.

5. The rise of many of the Asian, Latin American and Middle East countries is often attributed to the growth in their middle class. Middle-class parents have fewer kids. They hold dear to such values like prudence, ambition, justice, freedom, order, moderation and continual self-improvement. And these, we must address!

6. Our every solution and service can no longer be a one-hit wonder. We often content ourselves by seeing success in one segment of our business when there are numerous areas crying out for change and simplicity.

7. Because they made music that resonated with people of all times.

8. Because the lyrics and the rhythms still hit a chord in today’s realities.

9. They were not the one-hit wonders who served a moment in time, or even a generation. They served many generations. They filled our purpose beyond just a moment, nurtured us through many of life’s phases.

10. No team can enjoy continual success if it keeps playing the same game for a different time.

11. The opportunity and undertaking are ours. Fortune more often favours the bold, the one with enough courage and humility to say, “My model and assumptions no longer work, we need to simply work with new ones.”

Malaysia's national tourism agency promotes the country as "a bubbling, bustling melting pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony." Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak echoed this view when he announced his government's theme, One Malaysia. "What makes Malaysia unique," Mr. Najib said, "is the diversity of our peoples. One Malaysia's goal is to preserve and enhance this unity in diversity, which has always been our strength and remains our best hope for the future."

If Mr. Najib is serious about achieving that goal, a long look in the mirror might be in order first. Despite the government's new catchphrase, racial and religious tensions are higher today than when Mr. Najib took office in 2009. Indeed, they are worse than at any time since 1969, when at least 200 people died in racial clashes between the majority Malay and minority Chinese communities. The recent deterioration is due to the troubling fact that the country's leadership is tolerating, and in some cases provoking, ethnic factionalism through words and actions.

KUANTAN: A former drug addict sacrificed himself by jumping into the sea to save another man from his church group who was swept away by high tide during an outing at the popular Teluk Chempedak beach here.

The body of Hoh Kun Fatt, 22, from Kampung Baru Ampang, Selangor, was found at 5.11am yesterday near the Hyatt Regency Resort here, about 900m from where he was last seen.

Family and church members mourned the death of Hoh, whose last words were: “Save the others!”

DO you wonder, at times, if someone far down the line actually deserves to be paid more than you?

What if people were paid based on the importance of the job, rather than how the pay structure has evolved?

I grew up in a home where the bucket system was used and we all knew the consequences if the night soil carrier failed to show up. He certainly held the most important job, as far as we were concerned.

Fortunately, this job has become obsolete. But there are certainly many jobs today where importance is not reflected in the salary.

After listening to Dr Ron's teaching today on "Science + Theology", I knew I had to buy the 2 books that he wrote. I hardly every buy non-exam related books as I have no time to read them.

As I lined up to pay the book, the lady who was helping to sell told me the price & I paid. I then asked her if she could issue receipt, but she apologized & said they did not. I just smiled back, giggled a little and said "If u issue receipt, I can claim tax deduction..hee hee". She laughed and said "OK, i'll bear that in mind next time."

Hahaha..kinda "proud" of myself that I could apply my tax knowledge into real life...*syok sendiri*

Next, Dr Ron autographed the 2 books I bought. He did not ask the people lining up before me anything, but when it came to my turn, before he signed the books, he looked at me and asked "Are you really gonna read both the books?" I was shocked, hesitated for about 2 seconds & said (slowly) "yyyeeeaahhh" *I was trying to sound convincing, but deep down I wasn't convinced myself*

Why was I not confident in my answer? I know that I don't have time to read them now (but plan to after my ACCA exams). Meanwhile, I had this "super brilliant" thought to give these books to my dad for his birthday, ask him to read them & narrate them to me when we drive along the north-south highway the next time...hahahaha...

*What a "GOOD" daughter I am!"

*got to repent..repent* hee hee!

Anyway, after my "trying-to-sound-persuasive" answer, Dr Ron laughed & said to me "Good..Good!", while singing the books for me. *Winks*

Paying my dues

Well, last night I had a very bad feeling once again - the fact that I want to spend time as much as possible with my cg members, but then I am unable to because of my study load.

One member pointed out that since im leaving soon, i should be spending more time with my members esp in outings.

Wouldn't this be my very desire to spend time with my dearest spiritual family as much as possible since my time here with them is so limited? These are the very people that have been walking with me in my 5 years here in CHC. They mean the world to me.

But since i did my ACCA, i had to make more sacrifices in terms of "time" with my loved ones..Did i like it? NO...i hated it! Many who don't understand what Im going through think that Im so selfish with my time.

But I have come to accept that, I got to work seriously hard to pay my dues, for a better future. I am doing this for God, myself & my loved ones.

Someday, we will all see the fruits of my labor. Someday, we'll all understand...

Hi dear members (E5 & E26),

How r u guys?

Hope everyone is growing to be more & more like Jesus everyday!

Well this friday (Nov 19) morning, I will be driving back to Penang to

prepare for my finals on Dec 13-15. I am already missing you guys,

for most of us, our cg yesterday (Nov 12) is the last time I can see

you guys for 2010 in KL.

I just wanna thank you all for being such a great blessing to me

& cg...thank you so very much for helping me a better

sister, friend & leader. I am very sorry for the mistakes I have done..

I appreciate all your constant feedbacks & I am always trying to embrace

them to be someone who is able to bless u guys more.

Next cg (Nov 19), Yuan will be teaching a very practical & powerful sermon,

entitled 'Being A True Friend'. I have gone through the sermon &

it just really challenged me once again...I find myself asking how

I can really be a better true friend to all of you & those around me...

So do come & be ready to be radically blown away with the Word of God, amen!

This past whole year, cg has gone through so much..some nice, some not

so nice times..but a BIG THANK YOU to all of us, who

has decided to never give up on God, ourselves & one another in cg (including ur CgL).

Indeed, at the end of the day, whatever we do, it's always

to bless one another..and this is what we call, a TRUE FAMILY.

The "Telamonia dimidiata" Spider Myth

& I like to tell u that this is only a myth (*smiles):

在KL过去的5天，3个女人不约而同的到医院诊疗。全部都出现同样的病症：发烧，发冷，呕吐，然后肌肉萎缩，瘫痪, 到最后死去

他们没有特别的创伤。研究报考显示，他们的血液里有毒性。这3个女人各不相识,也没有共同点

过后才发现，他们都有到过Jalan Kuchai Lama的一家餐厅用餐。那家餐厅现在已被卫生局全面封锁了。食物，食水，冷气，统统都检验过，没有任何的发现。

直到有一天，那个餐厅的女服务员也得到同样的症状。他告诉医生，她之前在放假，回来拿支票，她没有在哪里吃喝，只是有用洗手间。

过后，他们在洗手间的坐厕盘下，找到一个小种的蜘蛛。那蜘蛛身上有带双纹。这蜘蛛具有很毒的毒性，要几天才出现中毒的症状。这蜘蛛喜欢隐藏在冷，暗，潮湿，厕所坐盘底下刚好就是它们作息的地方。

过后几天，一名JB的律师也遭遇到同样的症状。在临死前，他告诉医生说：他因做生意要在印尼起飞，在新加坡转机。在没有回到自己的家前，他没曾到过那家餐厅，只不过，他有像那3个女人的症状，他的右屁股有被东西刺伤的痕迹。

调查显示，这飞机是从原本的印度起飞。 CAB命令全印度航空搜索全部飞机的厕所，才发现到有其中4架来至不同飞机的厕所里头有着这蜘蛛的巢。

现在相信，这蜘蛛已经蔓延到世界各地。所以，要上公共厕所的人士要小心，打开坐厕的盖，检查有没有这类型的蜘蛛。

Three women in KL turned up at hospitals over a 5-day period,
all with the same symptoms - fever, chills, vomiting, followed by muscular collapse, paralysis and finally,death.
There were no outward signs of trauma. Autopsy results showed toxicity in the blood. These women did not know each other, and seemed to have nothing in common.

It was discovered, however, that they had all visited a same restaurant along Jalan Kuchai Lama within days of their deaths. The health department descended on the restaurant, shutting it down. The food, water and air conditioning were all inspected and tested, to no avail.

The big break came when a waitress at the restaurant was rushed to the hospital with similar symptoms. She told doctors that she had been on vacation, and had only went to the restaurant to pick up her check. She did not eat or drink while she was there, but had used the restroom.

That is when one toxicologist, remembering an article he had read, drove up to the restaurant, went into the restroom and lifted the toilet seat. Under the seat, out of normal view, was a small spider. The spider was captured and brought back to the lab,where it was determined to be the Two-Striped Telamonia (Telamonia dimidiata), so named because of its reddened flesh color. This spider's venom is extremely toxic but can take several days to take effect. They live in cold, dark, damp climates, and toilet rims provide just the right atmosphere.

Several days later, a lawyer from JB showed up at a hospital emergency room.. Before his death, he told the doctor that he had been away on business, had taken a flight from Indonesia , changing planes in Singapore , before returning home. He did not visit the restaurant while there. He did, as did all of the other victims, have what was determined to be a puncture wound, on his right buttock.

Investigators discovered that the flight he was on had originated in India .. The Civilian Aeronautics Board (CAB) ordered an immediate inspection of the toilets of all flights from India , and discovered the Two-Striped Telamonia (Telamonia dimidiata) spider's nests on four different planes!

It is now believed that these spiders can be anywhere in the country. So please, before you use a public toilet, lift the seat to check for spiders.

It can save your life! And please pass this on to everyone you care about.

Fact: This urban legend began in August, 1999 as a deliberate Internet hoax, disguised as a news story. The original version refers to a spider allegedly called Arachnius gluteus, or South American Blush Spider. Nothing mentioned in the story is genuine; there is no such spider, no such airport, no such medical association, no such doctor, no such restaurant, and no such aeronautics board. For more detail, see Rick Vetter's hoax page.

In October, 2002 a new version of the same hoax surfaced. This one mentions a real species, the south Asian jumping spider Telamonia dimidiata, but it is still a hoax. A jumping spider is one of the least likely to be found in such a situation; they are sun-lovers, and none are more than mildly toxic to humans."

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Christian emigration from the Middle East is impoverishing Arab culture and Muslims have a duty to encourage the presence of Christian minorities, a Lebanese government adviser told a Vatican summit on Thursday.

Mohammad Sammak, a Sunni Muslim who is secretary general of Lebanon's Christian-Muslim Committee for Dialogue, told a synod of bishops the declining number of Christians in the region was a concern for all Muslims.

"The emigration of Christians is an impoverishment of the Arabic identity, of its culture and authenticity," said Sammak, who is an adviser to Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri. He added that maintaining the Christian presence in the Middle East was a "common Islamic duty".

The two-week meeting is debating how to protect minority communities in the Middle East and promote harmony with other religions. Christians made up about 20 percent of the region's population a century ago and now account for about 5 percent.

Iran's Ayatollah Seyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad Ahmadabadi, a Shi'ite law professor, recognised the need to protect minority communities in his speech to the synod.

"The stability of the world depends on the stability of the livelihood of small and large groups and societies," Damad said.

"This stability could only be achieved when all can live without fear and threat from others. This is our duty to bring about such conditions."

Speaking earlier at a joint news conference in Rome, both Muslim scholars stressed that radicalisation was not just an Islamic problem.

"There is the rise of fundamentalism inside Israel, and in Christian and Zionist movements in the United States, and there is the rise of Islamic fundamentalism also," said Sammak.

"This is a negative phenomenon, and not only Christians are suffering from it."

across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. You
start the engine put it into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your
space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle
of the rear window. So, you stop and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically run you over as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.
So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your
money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are
now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, lock your doors and just drive away.
Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you
read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and
family, especially to women.

There should be a consistency that runs through us all. For Jesus doesn't change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he's always totally himself.

Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them?

Discipline In A Long - Distance Run (Hebrews 12: 4-11)

My dear child, don't shrug off God's discipline,
      but don't be crushed by it either.
   It's the child he loves that he disciplines;
      the child he embraces, he also corrects.

God is educating you; that's why you must never drop out. He's treating you as dear children. This trouble you're in isn't punishment; it's training, the normal experience of children.

Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God?

We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God's training so we can truly live?

While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God's holy best.

At the time, discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain.
